The Sharpstown Parks Alliance (SPA) is a dedicated volunteer-based nonprofit working to enhance and preserve the parks and green spaces in the Sharpstown area. Our mission is to promote, strengthen, and support neighborhood parks by partnering with local organizations, government agencies, and community members to create vibrant and accessible outdoor spaces for all.
Our History
The idea for the Sharpstown Parks Alliance was first planted by former District J Councilmember Mike Laster, who recognized the need for a unified effort to improve and maintain Sharpstown’s parks. Inspired by his vision, local residents and community leaders came together to form SPA, working to advocate for responsible park development, increased recreational opportunities, and enhanced green spaces. Today, our alliance continues to grow, fostering a sense of civic pride and community engagement through park stewardship and advocacy.
Focus of Activities
SPA is committed to ensuring that Sharpstown’s parks remain safe, well-maintained, and inviting for people of all ages and backgrounds. We work closely with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, the Houston Parks Board, Harris County Precinct 4, and other partners to develop programs, secure funding, and implement projects that benefit our local parks. Our focus includes five neighborhood parks: Bonham, Crain, Lansdale, Sharpstown, and Sharpstown Green, as well as other green space initiatives such as Bayland Park and the Sharpstown Trail.
